If you’re still in the first flushes of youth, you probably find it very difficult to think about your pension – retirement seems like a lifetime away.

By the time you get to your forties or fifties, retirement is much closer, and you start taking a bit more interest in what your income might look like.

The problem is, the older you start, the more you need to put into a pension to provide anything like enough return for a reasonable lifestyle in retirement.

So, our first advice is that it is never too early to talk about pensions. Even a small amount put away each month, will help you to be more comfortable later on in life.

As you get older, most people have accumulated a variety of pensions, from different employers, as they have changed roles and careers.

These can be scattered all over the place, invested in different ways, with different fee structures, and investment performance.

It is very difficult for you to keep track of what you have, let alone decide if it is still in the right place.

We like to start our relationship with each client by reviewing their existing pension provision. That amounts to pouring over the various paperwork you have, and contacting your existing pensions providers on your behalf to get current valuations. From there, we can set out for you what retirement is projected to look like with your existing pensions.

If you want to access some funds, and you are near retirement age, we can talk about how you might do that, and what the implications will be for your pension and your tax bill.

For you, it is all about realising your longer term life plan – what do you want life to look like post retirement? For us, it’s about helping you get there.

If you would like a review of your pensions with next steps, please give us a call on 01344 875 310 and let’s arrange a chat.
